Day Two: Pearl, MS to Dallas, TX

Well.... here we are.... day 2 of the journey.... We started out this morning at 6:42..... We had good intentions of starting earlier than that but hey....... its vacation remember...

Pearl is about 30 minutes from the Louisiana line, so after a bagel and ham biscuit continental breakfast we headed out.... Neither of us had ever been to the Mississippi River so we were both excited to see it... When we got there we both were pretty shocked at how wide it really was... We stopped at a little over look to get some pics and there was a local man there reading the paper... He said there were some really good spots to see the river on the Louisiana side, but that they were all flooded.. Apparently all the rain from the north has started winding its way down to the south...

After some pics there at the park we drove by and snapped a couple more of the Casino River Boats... They are Ginormous!!!

When we crossed into Louisiana the fog was so thick you could not se 10 feet... I felt like we were in a Stephen King movie.... and wouldn't you know it... the GPS acted a bit crazy... That's when we needed it the most... It was so foggy you couldn't see the street signs....

Finally we came out of that and on we went.... We didn't really have huge plans for the day... It was mainly a driving day for us...

Both of us entered Texas for the first time and decided to take some pics at the border.... Believe it or not we were not the only ones... While we snapping pics 2 car loads full of people pulled up... Guess they figured if we could do it they could do it!!!

We filled up for the second time near Tyler Texas..... after 450 miles to a tank... that was a record for my car!!!

When we arrived in Dallas, we went downtown for lunch... It was about 1 o'clock in the afternoon and the place was deserted.... Apparently Dallas is only busy during the week...

We did have some excitement downtown..... We were driving along... and YES I was paying attention, when all of a sudden we ended up on a one way street going the wrong way.... Matt and I both said at the same time..." Why are those red lights facing the wrong way???????" DUH MORON!!! HERE'S YA SIGN!!!!!!! Some man honked at us and said turn around.... little did he know we had driven 4 city blocks before we realized it.... THANK THE LORD it was busy!!!

We laughed as we thought about me telling you guys this as we ate lunch at a sports bar downtown... had some great Jalepeno Pork Chops.... No pics there... I was so on edge about stupidity that I left my camera in the car...

After lunch we headed over to see Dallas Cowboys Stadium in honor of my brother-in-law Lawrence.... Not much to see there... kind of a disappointment.... for 100 dollar ticket to see a game I expected the outside to look a little nicer... See Matt's blog for a pic!!!

We headed on to our hotel....it is ummmmmm.... interesting.... Here is a sign that is in front of my parking space!!!

PRAY FOR MY CAR!!!!!!! Apparently the south side of Dallas is not the "affluent" side!!!!

After we napped and got rested from our long drive we headed out in search of something fun for dinner... We found this restaurant about 15 minutes away called Razzoo's Cajun Grille... If you ever near one go to it.... GREAT FOOD and GREAT ATMOSPHERE!!!! At the bottom you will see our appetizer.... Fried Green Beans... There were really good!!!

Tomorrow on to El Paso...... Forecasted High......... 106!!!!!!!!!!

Day 2 Stats:
Drive Time- 6.5 hrs
400 miles
71.00 in Gas
Gas: 3.85 a Gallon (Tyler, TX)

You forgot about cow poker, which I'm winning 125-85.
That cemetery is still being disputed. That would've made it 200-85.

el paso is notorious for one way streets. i've never turned down one, but i've been close a few times!

Sorry it's taken me so long to catch up. I've been kinda busy with Mama.

Okay- nobody has said it yet but, seeing you standing there in front of the riverboats on the Mississippi, made me think of Tom Sawyer (Mattie) and Huckleberry Finn (Jed). This is exactly the plan they had in mind so, that's my trip names for you two.

So glad you're having a great time and you're doing great on the gas mileage!!

Love ya-
