First Grade Funnies

Working with first graders over the past 4 years has allowed me to see and hear some pretty funny stuff..... As my last days of first grade are coming to a close I am feeling like I want to recapture some of those fond memories here on my blog so I can laugh at them years from now....

1. Cynthia and Landon were reading with me on the carpet when Cynthia passed gas... It was my first year and I was trying to be professional but I lost it....... TRUST ME IT WAS HYSTERICAL!!!

2. Briana trying to get her chap stick...... I hope she found it..... I won't tell you where it was....

3. Jonathan told me he thought he had Diarrhea... I asked him how he knew.... He said.... "It is in my seat"....

4. Lee whispering in my ear........."there is poop on the toilet"...

5. Maleeka telling me about some dog doo on the playground.... and I quote... "Mr. Dearberry...Daaays doookie over dare!"

6. Upon telling Jamie to draw a picture of me... He said... "Can I draw you skinny?" I laughed and said sure.... He then said... "Can I at least draw your nose hairs?"

7. I told Harumi to have fun, play and be merry at recess..... She said she didn't want a husband.....

8. Spencer.... after wetting the floor in the bathroom said "I couldn't help it... I bent over to lift the seat and it just went everywhere!"

9. Lucas wrote a letter to the tooth fairy and asked her if she had a lawyer... When I asked him why he said....."I figured if she was going in all those houses and sneaking in people's rooms without permission she might need one."

10. The last one was my own folly.... I was trying to ask my class the question.... Fact or Fiction... For some reason it came out "fart or fiction?" The class was lost for the rest of the day!!!

I hope you enjoyed reading these as much as I have the past 4 years in the first grade.... I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!

My class was taking the PACT test. You could hear a pin drop, and all of a sudden one of those sqeaky farts. It was loud too. We had to stop and regain our composure. It was at this point I said, "Take a deep breath." Upon realizing the folly in this statement we lost again. Needless to stay their math scores are gonna, STINK.

My favorite from my first year is when TyRiq and I got into one of his many conversations concerning skin color.
TyRiq says, "Ms. Allen, you're white." "Yes, TyRiq." Then he says..."I'm black." "Yes, TyRiq." "And Savannah,(my SUPER sweet Asian student)" he continues, "well she all mixed up! She don't know if she white or black!"
As I picked my jaw up off the floor, I quickly corrected him.
Kids are too funny! :0)

I am sure those kids will remember you for the rest of their lives. Not just because of the funny things that happened, but because you took time to show them love and to be "Jesus with skin for many". Love you! Joye

We sould write a book! Comments from our kids and ourself. The first funny that came to my mind was one of the many days on the "front rug". As I went to sit on the rug with the kids I heard a big rip...not a student passing gas but someone's pants ripping! As my bottom made it to the rug I realized I could feel the rug REALLY WELL...the ripping noise was MY pants!!!!!
Jed-thanks for all the memories AND laughs! Lov ya!

My favorite is from my first year in Sumter County. I was in charge of the color guard @ Hillcrest High School...this was 1982 (I know Jed, you were only 4!) and afroes were still in style and this particular guard member had a big ole 'fro...the big GE thing back then was for the color guard to lay down across the field and then the music would stop and the whole band would take a dramatic step over the color guard...we were rehearsing this one day and all of a sudden this girl jumped up and started running around the field beating her head and screaming....she had laid her 'fro in a huge pile of ants...it took about 20 mins for us to catch her to even begin to help her...toooooo funny!
