Perfect Newsletter

Every week I type a newsletter for my parents at school to keep them informed of the week's happenings... I get our school secretary Ms. D. to proofread it for me each week. I am a horrible "proofer" of my own stuff. I don't ever catch my mistakes.... Especially the ones where I suddenly start typing like I am talking in person... You know, like I do on here....

Anyway, I digress...

I gave her my next week's newsletter on Tuesday for her weekly proof. (Having it ready on Tuesday for the next week is a whole other story to proud of!!!) She read it this morning, and she put it back in my box with this awesome sticker on it.... I had a mistake free newsletter.... It was the first time in over a year and a half. I was so happy that I put the stickey with the sticker on it, on my encouragement wall. (That's the back of my classroom door where I post all the little pictures kids make for me, and the encouraging notes from the admin.) Next week when Ms. D. rips my newsletter to shreds, I will look back at this sticker and relish in the fact that I once had a perfect newsletter!!!!

A special thanks to my busy busy school secretary for always taking the time to help me out. The other secretary "ain't" to shabby either... You guys are the best!

Arthur's Reading Club

Each six weeks at school we celebrate our kids' reading accomplishments with a celebration called "Arthur's Reading Club." Each student has a reading goal, and if they meet it, we have a big celebration. This past Monday we celebrated, and none other than Arthur himself appeared. I had a blast. All the kids sang the theme song as I danced around and got them all excited about their achievement. The funny thing is... When I was little my step-dad used to call me Arthur... Guess it was prophetic! Things we do for our students... and I LOVE EVERY SECOND!

I cannot believe how big she is getting. She started K5 this year...and she is a genius.... No I am not biased... It is TRUE! ;0)

Upward Football

A few years ago I coached soccer for Upward at my church... Now, if you know me, you know I am NOT athletic.... I do not know the first thing about soccer... but I had a good time and we made it through the year, and the girls I coached learned a lot about team work.

This year, I reluctantly agreed to coach football with my friend Matt, and man am I having a good time. Again, let me reiterate, I AM NOT ATHLETIC!!! I stink so bad... I smell like the landfill on a hot day when it comes to sports..... but I am having a blast... There is so much more to coaching than knowing the game... It is keeping your players motivated... encouraging them... pushing them... teaching them.... Kinda like what I do everyday in the classroom... If you ever have a chance to coach an Upward team... Do it.... It will be a blast.

Where Have I Been?

Lots of people have been emailing me and asking, "Where are you?"

Well... school started back and unfortunately blogging got thrown past the back seat and was locked up in the trunk. I am starting to get back into the routine and things are well.... very well!!! My kiddos are just wonderful and the year is quickly getting into full swing.

I love this time of year... For teacher's, we get to have the feeling of "New Year's" twice a year. Most people get a fresh start just once... Jan. 1st... But teachers get to have that feeling twice...

I love how at this time of year I can commit to doing things better, teaching a new way, trying new ideas... and I have the whole school year in front of me to reach my goals... All things seem possible.

That's exactly how my kiddos come in.... and its my job to cheer them on, and do everything in my power to get them to their goals. I love it! I really have the greatest job ever!

When you were young, what was your favorite thing about "Back to School" time?
