Cutting With the Scissors Shut

Today I was cutting out some things I needed for a huge lesson I am doing tomorrow. I looked down while I was cutting and realized that some how the scissors were closed... I wasn't cutting anything. I was just pushing the scissors while they were shut... Nothing was being accomplished. I was merely going through the motions of someone who knew how to cut, but I wasn't really cutting. Have you ever done anything like that? There is lesson for ya there. Think... Reflect?

What are you trying to cut with the scissors shut?

Where in the World?

I love to travel.... I have been lots of places... Some good, some not so good... Regardless of the places, the experiences I have had along the way have been priceless.... What is the neatest place you've ever been? Why did you go? What did you do there? Would you go back? Any plans to travel this summer or in the near future? Tell me about. I am trying to decide what to do, if anything, this summer. Post a comment and let me know

What a Blast!!!

This weekend I had the best time. It was my friend Gray's 30th birthday. He is the one in the red jacket below. The other guy on the end is named Will.

All 4 of us guys were great friends in college. Gray's wife Rebekah decided to throw Gray a surprise party down in Augusta so Matt and I went to down for a bit of a reunion. I haven't seen Gray since 2002 and it was soooo good to see him and hang out this weekend. I have seen Will and his wife Suzanne a couple of times since then but not a whole lot. They are both married with kids. (I was in both weddings.... always a groomsman never a groom.)

It was so weird to see them as dads but I could tell they were great ones!!! After dinner we all went to hang out at Starbuck's... My how the conversations were different.... We used to talk about the latest music and all of our crazy friends.... This time we talked about the economy, politics, and our new found medical ailments as we get deeper into adulthood. We laughed at ourselves, and thought about how all those who are older than us would say we are just babes.... Nonetheless we felt grown up this weekend... and it was a blast!!!

Will and Gray... I love you guys... Ya'll are like brothers to me. I am so thankful God allowed me to have such great friends. It's your turn to make the trip. See ya soon!!!
Suzanne and Rebekah... It was great to see ya'll too.
Take care of the boys and listen to all their "confessions."

Moon Pie

On Monday nights I watch the show, Big Bang Theory. (Click to see an episode.) This past Monday Sheldon revealed his nickname given to him by his grandmother..... It was Moon Pie!!! He said she called him that because he was nummy nummy and she could just eat him up.... Needless to say I thought that was hysterical.

This got me to thinking about all the different nicknames I have had over the years... I thought I would share a few with you.

1. Brother- my mom, Johnnie-Lynn, and most of her friends and the old youth group from Inman First calls me this.

2. Jedburg- Many people have called me this... 2 in particular come to mind. Steven Furtick, a great old college friend, and Steve Dyar, my former worship leader, who is now with the Lord.

3. Jethro- This has been one that has been around for me forever. It was revitalized by friend Teri back in 1994 on our European tour.

4. Babacar- This was my Wolof name when I lived in Africa. The natives we didn't know called us TooBob... That was the Wolof slang for white man.

5. Snoopy- This was my camp nickname when I worked with a team to run a Baptist youth camp in Alaska during the summer of 2000. The rest of the camp worker were other Peanuts Characters.

6. Mr. D Who Lives in A Tree- This was a name I gave myself when I worked in a special education project.

7. Jeddy Poo Poo- I cannot believe I just typed that, but it was/is a name my friend Meri calls me. We worked together for 8 years at FATZ.... The name just happened. Not sure why.

8. Jedwin- My middle name is Edwin.... No, not Jed Edwin.... J. Edwin...... so Jedwin just seemed to happen. I can remember being called this one early in life by my stepdad Johnny.

9. #1 Dumplin'- This is what my Granny calls me. I am the oldest grandchild and she reminds me all the time!!!

10. Presh as in "precious"- That is what my teaching partner JoAnn calls me. Not sure why... she just does. Another teacher friend calls me 'precious angel." Boy do I have her snowed :0)

11. BB- This is probably my favorite. It is what my nieces call me, and I LOVE IT!!!

I am sure I have been called other things, but these are my favorite.
What are some of your nicknames?

Clean House

One of my favorite shows to watch, especially if I can catch a marathon of it on a rainy Saturday is Clean House. The host of the show, Niecy Nash, is so funny. She does not hesitate to tell the people on there how crazy messy their houses are. I wish she could go to these houses. I ran across these pics on another blog. How in the world do people live like this?

Stinky Restaurants

Some of my favorite restaurants require me to go home and change out of my good clothes before I go because of the smell I have when leave there... Here are a few.

1. Waffle House- I love the food as you have read on previous blogs, but every time I go in there I leave smelling like smoke. I hate that. I would probably go more if it weren't for the smell. When we went during the snow my ski pants wreaked of smoke afterwords.

2. Kan Pai- This is hands down my favorite place... I have had countless birthday dinners there, but be prepared to smell like a big whole jar of teriyaki when you leave. I have to wash my clothes after I go there... No airing them out. The smell is too strong!

3. KFC- Not my favorite place to eat, but if the group wants to go I almost always object because when you leave your clothes reek like a big, fat, nasty, greasy piece of chicken.

4. The Beacon... Need I say more???

Anymore you can think of?

Good Song

I have heard this song several times on the radio, but experienced live Friday night when our Youth Band led our worship service. It is so good!!! Hope you enjoy it!!!

African Animals

This post is mainly for my class. We are studying the different classifications of animals and I wanted to show them pics of the different animals I saw while living in Africa. I am sure you guys will enjoy them too. You will be amazed at the younger, skinnier me :0)

Baboons on a hillside.

Some kind of lizard.

Some random goat that we had to ride in the back of the truck with. He used the bathroom on us.

Termite hill. There were hundreds of them... Many of them over 10 feet tall.

A pack of Warthogs.

A random monkey that ran across the golf course.

A lizard that fell into our dishwater. Since we couldn't get anymore water til the next morning we just put some bleach in the water and hoped for the best.

Me riding a donkey. They made the most annoying sound!!!

Feeding monkeys in The Gambia. Yes... Those are pajama pants... That's what they wore over there.

Petting a crocodile. Yes, he is real. According to the locals they are under a spell cast be the healing waters of the pond right next to them. We think they are just sedated.
