Planting a Garden

I have said every year since I was a little boy pulling onions and snapping green beans with my Grand Daddy that I was gonna plant a garden... I do not like a ton of veggies... but I do love fresh cantaloupe, bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, and green beans...

Maybe this will be my year. My problem is that I never know where to plant it, and I need a tiller. I am too cheap to buy one. Anyone want to share? Do you plant a garden? Give me some advice.

Maybe I will get on that this weekend. It is supposed to nice and warm.

It's a Pupa

Thought you might like to see what is going on in my classroom right now. We have been studying the life cycle of a Painted Lady Butterfly.

Dream a Dream

I was humbled and convicted as I watched... Gives a whole new meaning to never judge a book by its cover. What an amazing sound!

Feeling Special

As you all know yesterday was my birthday. I turned 31... That is not a huge birthday compared to ones like 16, 21, 40, etc. so I wasn't expecting much...but the people around me turned what should have been just a regular ole' birthday into a really special day... Here are some examples.

1. 6:00 am... Mama called to sing to me.
2. Arrived at school... A teacher friend had me a card with some gummy bears.
3. Another teacher friend brought me a sausage biscuit from Hardee's.
4. Another teacher friend bought me an Easter/birthday basket filled with goodies and a candy pooping cow.
5. 3 students brought me gifts: a bottle of ketchup, target gift cards, and a big pack of Kit-Kats.
6. Another teacher friend bought me lunch from Zaxby's.
7. Several teacher friends got me thoughtful cards.
8. I heard the "Birthday Song" at least 10,000 times. (Nothing like a birthday in a school with the kiddos... One, kid said... "this is the best b-day you've ever had Mr. D!!!!)
9. Another teacher friend made me a cake for lunch.
10. Another teacher friend gave me a target gift card, scrap book that she made, and a craft book to use with my students.
11. My room mom made me 2 strawberry cakes. One for me and the class and one for home.
11. Matt cooked his famous ribs for dinner and the family came over and ate. We dyed Easter eggs.
13. My gift... they all chipped in to buy me my very own Bose Sound Dock for my iPod. I LOVE IT!
14. Mama made me very own Jello No Bake Cheesecake.
15. God gave me my perfect kind of day... Rainy with thunder all day long... First time I ever remember that kind of weather on my birthday. It was great!!!
16. Tons of calls, emails, and texts from friends to wish me well....

31 turned out to be one of the best birthdays I have had.
Thanks to all of you who made me feel special!

April 8th, 2009

Today was a normal day... Nothing spectacular happened... I went to school... had a meeting after school... got my hair cut.... ate at Olive Garden... went to band practice at church... Now I am home.

That is pretty much my same schedule every Wednesday with the exception of the hair cut... That's only every other week. It is a very predictable schedule... Almost like the movie Groundhog Day... Does that mean I am getting old?

My grandma Maudie pretty much did the same thing every single day for the last part of her life... and she was old... She was 93 when she died... Boy do I miss her... Especially with my birthday coming... I would be getting the sweetest little card in the mail tomorrow. She was always a day early. :0) She wanted to make sure I got my money on time.

Don't you love grandmas... We have been reading a story about a little girl and her grandma in class this week. It has made me think about Maudie a lot. I have had the kids brainstorming all week about things they can do with their grandma. Some of them said their grandma was dead... Some said they didn't know her... Some said they saw theirs yesterday.

I know... I know... I am being totally random tonight, but there just isn't a lot going on right now. Sitting here relaxing, watching Idol, and hoping that the worst singer goes home. Thanks for reading.

'Til next time!!!!

Cooper River Run

This weekend I walked in the Cooper River Run 10k. It took 2.15 hrs. I enjoyed every step. I hope to run next year... Gonna take some training. I ran a lot in college, but that was almost 10 years ago. Below are some pics from the weekend.

Spades

I love to play games... board games, outdoor games, rainy day games, and card games. The past few weeks Johnnie-Lynn and I have been whooping up on Lawrence and Matt at Spades.... Tonight we met defeat for the first time this year. We have been playing a lot too, so we were used to winning. The bigger they are the harder they fall I guess. The last hand came down to a score of 412 to 488. They were winning.... If they got just 2 sand bags we were gonna move into the lead for one more hand... Johnnie-Lynn and I just knew they would get them because Matt is not a good bidder.... Well apparently the heavens opened up and Matt got some bidding sense. They got it right on the nose and victory came their way. This is my way of publicly applauding them both. Good Game!!!!
